A Custom Hyprland Setup — Built Piece by Piece, No Bundle
The desktop layer I'm actually moving toward — Hyprland built piece by piece: my own bar
(waybar or ironbar), my own terminal, my own keybinds, my own theme,
with no project-bundle layer baked in. Slower to "first screenshot" than a pre-made bundle, but
every component is one I picked and there's no surprise opinion to discover later. This is the
desktop layer Article 03's Part 4 points to.
- Hyprland 0.55+ with
hyprland.luaas the primary config language - Bar: comparison of
waybar, ironbar, eww— pick one and wire it up - Audio (PipeWire), GPU drivers, login manager (greetd + tuigreet) — every prerequisite installed à la carte
- Minimal app set; honest opinions on what's worth keeping vs. dropping
- How it feels on older hardware: first-screenshot time, idle CPU/RAM, no bundle overhead
